“Will Take Bullet To The Chest”: Bajrang Punia Slams Ex-IPS Officer For ‘Bullet’ Threat To Protesting Wrestlers

The wrestlers’ protest took an ugly turn on Sunday after Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik, Bajrang Punia and other protesters were booked by Delhi Police after they scaled the barricades during their march to the new Parliament building during the inauguration. Amid all this, a viral video of Bajrang Punia asking the authorities to shoot the protesters emerged. Soon after the Indian grappler got into a war of words with an ex-IPS officer on Twitter after the former IPS officer threatened to shoot the protester if need be.

Responding to former Kerala Director General of Police NC Asthana, Bajrang Punia, in a tweet in Hindi, pointed out that the IPS officer is talking about shooting the protesting wrestlers and asked Asthana where he has to come to get shot. He went on to state that he will not show his back and take the former IPS officer’s bullet to his chest. He concluded by highlighting that this is the only thing left to do now.

On Sunday night, the former DGP of Kerala, NC Asthana shared a news report of Bajrang Punia asking the authorities to shoot the protesters and wrote that if necessary, they will shoot the protesters not because Punia is saying. He pointed out that as of now, the protesting wrestlers have only been “dragged and thrown away” like a bag of garbage however, Article 129 of the Indian Constitution gives police the right to shoot. He went on to taunt the wrestler stating that under the right circumstances, his wish will be fulfilled and said that to know this one needs to be educated. He concluded by saying, “See you again at the postmortem table”.

Not only is it shameful but it’s unacceptable to see an ex-IPS officer speaking this way and threatening and intimidating the wrestlers protesting and demanding the arrest of WFI Chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh over the sexual harassment allegations against him. For the unversed, the protesters were booked for rioting and obstructing public servants in the discharge of duty after they got into a scuffle with the security personnel on Sunday. The wrestlers were heading to the new parliament building during its inauguration to protest. Nearly 700 people were detained across Delhi and about 109 including the top wrestlers were held at Jantar Mantar.
