The Shraddha Walkar Case Has Us Shook. But Two More Women Butchered In The Same Week Paint A Dark Picture About Women’s Safety

Regardless of what we believe when it comes to gender, one thing is for sure women’s situations when it comes to gruesome crimes don’t seem to be coming to an end. Day in and day out we keep hearing these incidences of women facing horrifying crimes and being subjugated to the most spine-chilling abuse. And the sad part is that this happens so often that most of us are used to hearing about these crimes. However, after the Shraddha Walkar took the country by storm, there has been another case of a woman being killed and slaughtered which has me feeling horrified.

The body of a woman was cut up and disposed of at Sitapur, Uttar Pradesh. The victim’s body, named Jyoti alias Sneha, was found on November 8 in Gulariha, a neighbourhood under the Rampur Kalan police station in the Sitapur district of Uttar Pradesh, while the two major suspects in the case, Pankaj Maurya and Durjan Pasi, have both been taken into custody. According to a police statement, the woman’s body parts were found in Gulariha, a neighbourhood in Sitapur that is serviced by the police station Rampur Kalan. The woman is Pankaj Maurya’s wife, one of the defendants.

Unfortunately, these aren’t the only cases where women have been killed this mercilessly. On November 18, Delhi resident Ayushi Yadav, age 21, was identified as the lady whose body was discovered on the Yamuna Expressway. Police have detained her mother and father Nitesh on suspicion that it was an honour killing. Additionally, the murderous tool has been located. She was shot dead in a residence in the Mod band village, which is under the control of the Badarpur police. Nitesh is accused of killing the victim, placing the body in a cart, and dumping it on the Raya service road next to the Yamuna Expressway. The body was discovered polythene-wrapped.

In another shocking incident, a woman was reportedly murdered and cut into pieces by her ex-boyfriend in the gruesome murder case that was reported in Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh. According to the police, the accused was named Prince Yadav, and the victim was named Aradhana Prajapat

i. The deceased had been beheaded and her body had been cut. According to the police report, the deceased’s dismembered body parts were located in two distinct places, with the skull being discovered in a pond six kilometers away from the well where the rest of the cut body parts were found. The deceased’s body was discovered in a well on November 15, whereas the suspected murder allegedly occurred on November 10.

As a woman I can say, it is an unfavourable time to be a woman in India. With the rising cases of crimes against women in India, I don’t even know who are we can feel safe with anymore. If we can’t trust our partners and even our parents, where should we turn? Not to mention that the Shraddha Walkar case has highlighted everything that is wrong with our law enforcement and as Swati Maliwal called it a “hollow system”. So if not our own family, spouses, and the police, who can women go to when they are being subjected to abuse? And why has there been nothing to alter this?
