Why do they do it? Well, because of politics. Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot’s reaction was not random but a response to the report that was released by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB). As per the report, the state had reported the highest number of rape cases in the country in the year 2021 – a 19% increase as compared to the 2020 report.

Even though the NCRB data clearly states that Rajasthan ranks second in overall crimes against women and first in the cases of rape registered, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot claims that the crime in the state is under control and that the report is false.
