Amidst Boycott Pathaan Row, PM Modi Asks BJP Workers To Avoid Commenting On Films. Chalo, Finally!

When Pathaan song ‘Besharam Rang’ was released, BJP ministers including Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra and BJP MLA Ram Kadam took offence to the song. The BJP leaders pointed out that the song is titled ‘Besharam Rang’ and the actress is wearing a “saffron” bikini which is the colour of Hinduism. Narottam Mishra had even opposed the film and threatened to block the release of Pathaan. Ram Kadam had said that the film insults Hindutva. And this isn’t the first time that BJP leaders have protested against a film or series. But it looks like this behaviour of BJP leaders did not sit well with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In an interesting turn of events, PM Modi has asked BJP workers to steer clear of making unnecessary comments on issues that are irrelevant like films.

According to media reports, PM Modi spoke to the BJP workers at the BJP national executive meeting in Delhi on January 16 and 17. During the meeting, the Prime Minister pointed out that BJP leaders and workers must refrain from making uncalled-for comments on irrelevant matters like films because it distracts people from the main agenda of the party which is the development of the country. He further highlighted that once these remarks are made by the BJP leaders, it plays on television all day and the main agenda of the party takes the backseat, as reported by news portals. This move came just 400 days before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

We’re glad PM Modi has asked BJP’s boycott brigade to take a chill pill and focus on real issues instead of making comments about films and censoring them. Thoda jaldi bol dete toh we could’ve avoided the whole ‘Besharam Rang’ row but der aaye durust aaye. At least, he gave BJP workers an earful for focusing on the wrong issues.

Earlier, MP minister Narottam Mishra had threatened to ban the release of Pathaan if some “highly objectionable” scenes are not fixed or removed. He went as far as saying that several scenes were shot with a “dirty mindset”. TBH, this isn’t the first time the MP leader has attacked a film for hurting Hindu sentiments. He has a history of slamming films and threatening them with bans and legal action over some or the other issue. BJP MLA Ram Kadam had also objected to Pathaan’s ‘Besharam Rang” and said that it insults Hindutva and Maharashtra follows the Hindutva ideology so, the film will not be shown in Maharashtra. Without naming the actress, the BJP leader also called out Deepika Padukone for supporting JNU and hurting the sentiments of “janeu dhaari” people.

BJP MLA Ram Kadam also objected to the song, calling it an insult to the Hindu religion. In a tweet, the lawmaker said that Maharashtra has a government with Hindutva ideology and the makers of the film must explain to the saints who are hurt by the song.
