Karnataka BJP Chief: Forget Road, Sewage. Prioritise Love Jihad

Erm, what?
Karnataka BJP Chief: Forget Road, Sewage. Prioritise Love Jihad

The term ‘love jihad’ has gained immense popularity over the last few months as several political leaders called out Muslim men for “trapping” Hindu women and forcing them to convert to Islam. TBH, we’ve heard some of the most absurd things being said about love jihad and now, there’s another one. While addressing BJP workers in Mangaluru, the Karnataka BJP President Nalin Kumar Kateel said that if people really worry about the future of their kids, they should focus on getting rid of ‘love jihad’ instead of discussing civic issues.

Karnataka BJP President Nalin Kumar Kateel was addressing BJP workers as a part of ‘Booth Vijaya Abhiyana’. It was during his address that the BJP leader said that people need not discuss “small issues” like roads and sewage but if people worry about their children’s future, they should focus on stopping and getting rid of ‘love jihad’ while adding that BJP is essential to stop ‘love jihad’ much like the law they brought against cow slaughter. Further, the BJP MLA termed Congress as a “party of terrorists” and levelled corruption allegations against opposition leaders DK Shivakumar and Siddaramaiah.

For the longest time, we ignored it and laughed it off when political leaders said something like this but looking at the world around us, it’s time we take it seriously. It’s time we stop laughing it off because the fact that a political leader is telling the party workers to focus on love jihad instead of actual civic issues that matter to people is beyond shocking. This goes to show how uninterested we are in developing and growing and dealing with real issues that contribute to the growth of the country as a whole. Instead, we waste our time focusing on problems like love jihad which is nothing more than a conspiracy theory.

In a world where crimes against women continue to rise, we want to make crimes about religion instead of focusing on the criminal. We want to make laws against love jihad instead of fixing our roads and providing proper toilets and sewage systems for people across the country.
