BJP Leader Claims There’s A ‘Love Jihad’ Angle In Tunisha Sharma’s Death

Trigger Warning: Suicide. On Saturday, the Indian entertainment industry received the shocking news of actress Tunisha Sharma’s death. Sharma, who used to portray the role of Shehzaadi Mariam in the serial Ali Baba: Dastaan-E-Kabul passed away by suicide on December 24, she was found hanging on the set of the show. After that, the show’s male lead, actor Sheezan Mohammed Khan was arrested by the police after her mother filed a case of abutment of suicide against him. On Sunday, BJP leader Girish Mahajan said that the death of Tunisha Sharma has a love jihad angle.

On December 25, the Maharashtra minister and BJP leader Girish Mahajan claimed that the death of actress Tunisha Sharma is a matter of love jihad. Mahajan further stated that the Eknath Shinde-led Maharashtra government is mulling bringing strict laws against love jihad. However, ACP Chandrakant Jadhav mentioned that there is no love jihad angle in the Tunisha Sharma suicide case, as of now. He added that the investigation is underway and they have seized the phone of the accused Sheezan Mohammed Khan.
Furthermore, the All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) demanded that the state government set up a Special Investigation Team to probe the death of Tunisha Sharma. The President of AICWA said that he visited the set where Sharma committed suicide and found out that people were scared there. He also mentioned that women are not safe on that set as it is located at an interior location where people are afraid to commute.
