Hathras Gangrape And Murder Case Horror Continues As UP Court Acquits 3 Accused, Convicts One

On September 14, 2020, a 19-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped and assaulted by four upper-caste men in Hathras, a district in Uttar Pradesh, India. The perpetrators left her in a field to bleed to death, and she was later found by her family. Sadly, the victim passed away eleven days later at Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi. And today 3 of the 4 accused men have been acquitted while one was convicted by a court in Uttar Pradesh.

Today, a Special Court in Hathras district of Uttar Pradesh acquitted three out of the four accused in the gangrape and murder case of a 19-year-old Dalit girl in September 2020. The verdict was announced by Judge Trilok Pal Singh in the court of Hathras. The main accused, Sandeep, has been found guilty of culpable homicide not amounting to murder under Section 304 of the Indian Penal Code, as well as offences under the SC-ST Act. However, The Special Court has acquitted all four accused of the charges of gang rape and murder.

The other four accused in the case, namely Sandeep (20), Ravi (35), Luv Kush (23), and Ramu (26), have been acquitted of all charges. They faced trial for offences under IPC sections 376 (rape), 376 (D) (gangrape), 302 (murder), and other offences under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, as per the chargesheet filed by the CBI.

The Horrifying Details Of Hathras Gangrape And Murder Case Of 2020

In September 2020, a 19-year-old Dalit woman was allegedly raped by four upper-caste men who dragged her away by dupatta around her neck, injuring her spinal cord. The perpetrators tried to strangle her during the assault, leading her to bite her tongue. Her claims were initially rejected by the police, who only registered a complaint later. Despite medical efforts, she died on September 29, 2020. What was worse was when the victim’s body was taken back to her village in an ambulance, the Uttar Pradesh police and other officials allegedly cremated her remains the same night without the family’s consent after which the Allahabad High Court took suo motu cognisance of the case. Following this, the case was transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in October 2020 for further investigation, and the CBI filed the chargesheet against all four accused in December of the same year.
