5.5 Lakh Women Associated With 64,000 SHGs, Almost Every Panchayat Has 2 Female Entreprenurs, Says Jammu And Kashmir LG

For a long time, it was believed in our country that women only belong in the kitchen. It took a great deal of struggling, fighting and rebelling on their part to prove otherwise. In fact, women living in urban areas could even fight for their right to work and had easy access to resources to get back up on their feet. But that was not the case for women living in rural areas. And especially for the ones residing in Jammu and Kashmir. But in what comes as support from The Jammu and Kashmir Rural Livelihoods Mission and Meesho, which is one of India’s most popular e-commerce websites, who have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to launch an online platform to help rural businesswomen launch their ventures.

As per reports, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha was present when this agreement was signed by The Jammu and Kashmir Rural Livelihoods Mission and Meesho at the Raj Bhavan. This MoU will help around 1800 self-help groups (SHGs). The LG extended his congratulations to the women entrepreneurs and said that this agreement will help them get financially independent.

This partnership will help the rural businesswomen sell the products from their ventures to the entire of India through Meesho, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said. Of some of the items that are being identified and will be sold on Meesho are crewel embroidered products, essential oils, woollens and more. The LG also shed light on how the government is providing employment opportunities to women.

Today, e-commerce has opened up doors for many employment opportunities. It makes it easy for businesses to just go online, register themselves and start selling their products. Also, because of the far and wide reach of the internet, businesses become accessible to a larger target audience. We are happy this step was taken to empower and support the rural female entrepreneurs in Jammu and Kashmir.
