Twitter Unhappy With Cambridge Dictionary Redefining Meanings Of Woman And Man. They’re Sticking To God’s OG Ones!
But what's the problem in inclusivity? There always has been a debate about the textbook definition of what being a man and a woman means. We are taught about the traits that define a man and woman from a young age and these stereotypes get ingrained in our brains. But we’re happy to see people breaking these stereotypes and redefining the meanings of being associated with a particular gender. Well, it looks like these new definitions are making it to the Cambridge Dictionary, too! The dictionary has updated the definitions of the words ‘woman’ and ‘man’ to include all those people who identify with these two genders despite being born with a different biological sex.
As per reports, the Cambridge Dictionary has redefined the meaning of ‘woman’ to a person who identifies as a female despite being born with a different biological gender. And the meaning of a ‘man’ has been updated to as someone who identifies as a male despite being born of a different gender at birth.
The dictionary has also given examples to explain the new definitions better. Giving an example of who a Trans man is, the dictionary wrote that he is a man who was born as a female and it was their doctor who encouraged them to live as a male before undergoing surgery to become a woman. While the example of a trans woman was given as Mary, a woman, who was born as a male.

Surprisingly, these changes were not accepted by Twitter users who went on to the micro-blogging site to express that they do not accept these new definitions. One of them wrote, “God’s definition of a woman is enough for me”, while another wrote, “They are changing reality in real time to put forward a false reality.” See other Twitter users’ reactions below.

The newly updated definitions of ‘woman’ and ‘man’ in the Cambridge Dictionary are more gender inclusive and accepting. We’re glad this step was taken in normalising gender and its identification.
