This is such an essential message!
‘The Male Feminist’ Ep 11: Divyanka Tripathi Takes A Stand Against Imposing Gender Norms On Kids

Gender Norms have always been a very real part of our society. We have been guilty of imposing these norms on children as soon as they are born. This goes from separating blue and pink colours for boys and women to teaching them what is considered ‘appropriate behaviour’ to go with their gender like teaching boys to play with cars and girls to play with dolls. These norms restrict our development in an attempt to forcefully mould their gender identity into what society considers to be appropriate. Divyanka Tripathi expressed her views on gender norms during the latest episode of Hauterrfly’s The Male Feminist.

Divyanka Tripathi is one the most successful television actresses lately and she has been seen in various famous TV shows including Ye Hai Mohabbatein, Banoo Main Teri Dulhann, Saath Nibhaana Saathiya and Choti Bahu. The episode 11 of The Male Feminist brings with it, Divyanka Tripathi, discussing all things feminism and beyond. She also shared some stories and experiences from her own life.

While discussing her childhood, she spoke about the extremely essential role that parenting plays in the development of children. She explained how her father and mother kept evolving with time and supporting their children. They never imposed any gender norms on her and her siblings and instead, gave them the space to grow and glow beautifully. This made it possible for Divyanka to grow up into a charming, independent and confident woman.

Divyanka’s parents never made her feel like she couldn’t be whatever she wanted to be and do what she wanted to do. This support, space and freedom of expression helped her reach her potential. This is why she has always been against imposing gender norms on children. She strongly believes that this imposition suppresses them, strips their uniqueness and doesn’t let them grow up and reach their full potential.

It is about time that we leave the old-age conditioning behind and move on towards crushing gender norms, towards a satisfied, happy and equal society as a whole. After all, if our childhoods aren’t governed by gender norms then, an extremely broad spectrum can be explored by people of all genders.
