The former WFI Chief, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, has reportedly been acquitted by the Delhi High Court on various grounds, including inconsistencies in the allegations made against him. For the unversed, Brij Bhushan Singh was accused of s*xual harassment by many female wrestlers, and protests led by Sakshi Malik, Vinesh Phogat and others were also organised demanding his arrest. Is Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh Acquitted?
According to several news reports, the Delhi High Court bench, presided over by Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) Ashwini Panwar, delivered the verdict. According to The Hindu report, there were “unexplained delays in the case, other contradictions and post-conduct incidents of the complainants” that made the accusations hard to believe. As per a Live Law report, the proceedings took place in camera. For the unversed, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh was also accused of harassing a minor.
Going by the reports, the co-accused in the case, Vinod Tomar, was also acquitted in the case. In May 2025, the court had also approved Delhi police’s closure report of the POCSO case filed by the minor.
What Was The S*xual Harassment Case?
The headlines erupted in 2023, when many wrestlers came on the streets to protest against the former WFI Chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. The protests were led by renowned Indian wrestlers Sakshi Malik, Vinesh Phogat, and Bajrang Punia. The protestors accused Brij Bhushan of s*xual misconduct against many female wrestlers, including a minor. They demanded an investigation into the matter and the resignation of the WFI Chief.
He was accused of s*xual harassment against the female wrestlers from the period between 2016 and 2019. On the other hand, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh had always denied the allegations; even after the charges were filed against him, he approached the court with a plea that he was falsely accused.
Reports suggest that the prosecutor will take “appropriate action” in the case.
