Air India Pee Gate: Accused Denied Bail Due To Threatening, Attempting To Influence Complainant

Considering the crimes against women, it’s scary for most of us to travel alone. As if that wasn’t enough, now getting on a flight alone has also become terrifying, more so since the Air India peeing incident that recently came to light. On November 26, the former VP of Wells Fargo, Shankar Mishra exposed himself and urinated on an elderly woman in business class on a New York-Delhi Air India flight. The accused was in an inebriated state at the time of the peeing incident. Shankar has been arrested and was presented before the Metropolitan Magistrate in Delhi’s Patiala House Courts for a bail hearing on Wednesday. Terming the incident “repulsive”, bail was denied by the court.

What Happened At The Bail Hearing In Delhi Court?

During the course of the bail hearing in Delhi Court, some more shocking information came to light. The accused in the Air India peeing incident, Shankar Mishra informed the court that the act was not aimed at outraging the modesty of a woman and neither was it derived by sexual desire while seeking bail. Further, the counsel for the accused claimed that the accused by not “guided by lust” while adding that the man has already suffered as he was fired from his job and is not a flight risk.

On the other hand, the complainant opposed the bail and further accused Shankar Mishra and his family of threatening and intimidating her. She alleged that the accused said that she was not a victim while adding that even though she wanted to file an FIR, it wasn’t registered due to Shankar’s influence. The counsel for the complainant also revealed that she is unable to stay in Bangalore as the accused and his family are threatening her not only via messages but they’re also coming to her house. It was also revealed that the accused’s father sent a text to the complainant that read “karma will hit you” and then deleted it. The complainant also claimed that they send messages and delete them. Slamming Air India for the peeing incident, the complainant said that the airline attempted to mediate the crime instead of separating the accused and the complainant.

The Delhi police also opposed the bail and informed the court that the mother and the sister of the accused attempted to contact the complainant. They further added that there’s a high probability that the accused will try to influence the complainant if released on bail since he comes from a powerful, rich and influential background. The Delhi Police is currently investigating the Air India peeing incident and examining witnesses.

Calling out the accused in the Air India peeing incident, Delhi Court’s Metropolitan Magistrate called Shankar Mishra’s conduct “utterly disgusting” and “repulsive”. The judge further added that the alleged act is sufficient to outrage the modesty of a woman while adding that the conduct of the accused has “shocked the civic consciousness” and needs to be condemned.

Highlighting that the accused did not cooperate with the police probe in spite of a notice being issued to him and it took a non-bailable warrant to secure the presence of the accused, the judge said that he does not “inspire confidence”. It was also noted that the accused and his family has attempted to contact the victim and there’s a high probability of the accused influencing the witnesses as well while denying bail to the accused, Shankar Mishra, in the case.
