Women From Pakistan And Iran Become First Ever To Climb Summit Of K2, The Second Highest Peak In The World

It is time for a ‘did you know?’ So, Did you know that K2 is the second highest mountain on the planet after Mount Everest stands tall at 8,849 meters? It is also considered to be one of the most dangerous summits for those who love mountaineering and want to trek it. There have been very very few people who’ve managed to reach the summit and joining that list are two women – one from Pakistan and one from Iran. The duo became the very first women from their countries to climb up to the summit of K2. 

On Friday, July 22, a woman from Pakistan named Samina Baig and a woman from Iran named Afsaneh Hesamifard wrote history as they became the first-ever women from their countries to reach the summit of K2 – the second highest peak in the world.

It was at 7:42 that the woman from Pakistan completed her ascent to the top of K2 and later on the woman from Iran climbed the mountain standing tall at 8,611 meters. 

As per the reports, following Samina Baig’s monumental climb, another Pakistani woman named Naila Kiani reached the top of K2 – barely three hours later. She became the second woman in the country to do so.

Before climbing the K2 in 2022, Samina Baig became the first Pakistani woman to climb Mount Everest in 2013. And as for Afsaneh Hesamifard, is one of the three women who have climbed Everest. 

Another woman who is on her way to climb K2 is none other than Nelly Attar who is a Lebanese-Saudi fitness expert. Other climbers that are on their way are from the United States, Lebanon, Nepal, Philippines, Estonia, Turkey, New Zealand, Australia, Hong Kong, Argentina, and the United Kingdom.
