Last year, when PM Modi announced that our country was going into a lockdown due to rapidly surging COVID cases he also announced that we should be grateful to our medical health professionals. In fact, he demanded that the entire nation bang plates and other utensils together to show our doctors and nurses just how much their work during this pandemic is appreciated. And even though it was probably the most useless assignment, it raised a very valid point. If it weren’t for our brave doctors and nurses, there’s no way we’d have survived through this pandemic. We should be eternally grateful to them. However, we must also remember that they too make errors. It happens, they are under immense pressure after all. For instance, a nurse in Tuscany, Italy gave a 23-year-old six dosages of the Pfizer vaccine instead of one.
According to reports, the 23-year-old woman was in the hospital after being administered six dosages of the Pfizer vaccine on Sunday. The woman is in good condition after being given plenty of fluids and paracetamols. Even though there weren’t any harmful effects, it’s still absolutely terrifying to think about overdosing on a COVID vaccine.

The nurse, who was responsible for administering one dose of the vaccine into the woman’s arm, mistakenly injected the entire vial, which is equivalent to six doses. The entire incident was reported to Italy’s medicine regulator. It is understood that while the overdose of the vaccine isn’t particularly harmful, it can amplify the common side effects such as fever and body ache.
While it’s essential that we get jabbed, we must also be very careful. Check and double-check with the nurse or doctor that is administering the vaccine. Just the thought of an overdose is terrifying.
