Veteran Lyricist Maya Govind Passes Away. She Wrote Songs For ‘Main Khiladi Tu Anari’, ‘Takkar’ And More

We were just recovering from the shock of hearing the news of Lata Mangeshkar and Bappi Lahiri’s demise when we learnt another piece of saddening news that popular Bollywood lyricist and singer Maya Govind has passed away. She left for a heavenly abode on April 7, 2022, and was 82 years old. Maya Govind breathed her last at her Mumbai residence after she suffered from a heart attack.
Maya Govind was suffering from a brain clot for the past four months and was undergoing treatment for the same. Sharing more details about her health, her son Ajay spoke to ETimes and said that she developed a urine infection that further complicated things. He also said that the brain clot had led to a deterioration in her health. He went on to add that sometimes it would feel like she had gotten better but then her health would take a turn for the worst. Ajay also informed that they had brought her home a month and a half ago to take better care of her.

Maya had written the lyrics of popular songs like Gutur Gutur, Main Khiladi Tu Anari, Aankhon Mein Base Ho Tum, and many others. She has sung over 800 melodies and worked in nearly 350 movies. She was married to the late writer-director Ram Govind. Ajay also has said that even though Maya Govind was not actively working due to her ailing health, she loved to recite her poems when she would visit her friends or relatives. She was also close to veteran artists like Kalyanji-Anandji, Bappi Lahiri and Ramanand Sagar.

Maya Govind’s last rites are going to be held today at 5 PM at the Pawan Hans Crematorium in Mumbai. The Hindi entertainment industry lost one of its prolific artists today. May her soul rest in peace.
