A Man In Varanasi Allegedly Spiked A French Female Tourist’s Drink. These Crimes Against Foreign Tourists Are A Blot On Indian Tourism
Today is World Tourism Day and people around are just promoting tourism in our country. Now, while I’m all supportive of it because it helps with the economy and exchange of culture takes place. But, ngl, I also do have apprehensions about it. With crime against women increasing in our country, do you even blame me? In fact, just recently a 35-year-old man was arrested in Varanasi for spiking a French female tourist’s drink. Now tell me, if you’re going to treat tourists this way, do you think anyone would want to visit India? I think not.
On Monday, a 35-year-old man from Varanasi was arrested after a French female tourist claimed that “a local guide” laced her drink with “country liquor”. The 30-year-old woman alleged that she fell sick after drinking the spiked drink. She said that on the night of September 21, she met a man on the streets who was like a “guide” who showed her around the city for three days.

As per reports, the French female tourist said that on the third night, the two of them went to a restaurant where the man allegedly spiked her drink with country liquor. She said, “After that, I felt really bad, weak, and unconscious”. She even added that she woke up without clothes the next morning.
A. Satish Ganesh, Varanasi Police Commissioner, who is handling the spiked drink case, said, “A French woman lodged a complaint in which she said that an unidentified person laced her drink after which she fell ill. She received treatment from a doctor. Hoping that such an incident doesn’t happen again, she lodged the complaint on Sunday.”

The Varanasi Police Commissioner also said that they identified the man responsible for spiking the French female tourist’s drink after watching the CCTV footage and through surveillance. He added that the man who allegedly spike the drink has been taken into custody and is being questioned.
The man who allegedly spiked the French female tourist’s drink was booked under IPC section 328 (causing hurt by means of poison with intent to commit an offence).
