US Lawmaker Calls Pro-Choice Women “Over-Educated, Under-Loved” For Wanting Abortion Rights. We Are Enraged.
There are days when I truly feel thankful that I live in a country like India which allows me to have an abortion without any questions asked. As a woman, it’s extremely scary for me to even imagine being forced into having a child. TBH, I’ve had two abortions with my boyfriend (now husband) and the idea that would not have been allowed to have those abortions send a shiver down my backbone. We all consider the West to be modern but reproductive and abortion rights have been a big issue in the US for a very long time now. Currently, the debate about abortion rights has gotten heated amid the leaked Supreme Court draft ruling that indicated the end of legal abortion across the US. The leaked draft hinted that the 1973 Roe v. Wade judgement which allows abortion rights might be overturned. And amid this debate a US lawmaker, Republican Matt Gaetz shared a rather judgement tweet about the pro-choice women that has left social media enraged.
The pro-choice people are in favour of abortion rights and the pro-life people are against it. Amidst the heated debate, US lawmaker Matt Gaetz shared a tweet calling the pro-choice women, who are protesting against the overturning of Roe v. Wade, “over-educated, under-loved millennials”. He went on to add that they return from the protest to a “lonely microwave dinner with their cats and no bumble matches”.
Take a look at this derogatory and shameful tweet shared by the Republican lawmaker.
How many of the women rallying against overturning Roe are over-educated, under-loved millennials who sadly return from protests to a lonely microwave dinner with their cats, and no bumble matches?
— Matt Gaetz (@mattgaetz) May 4, 2022
How many of the women protesting the overturning of Roe are on meal delivery subscriptions….for one?

Just like us, the social media users were also enraged at the comment and went on to slam Matt Gaetz for his shameful comment and schooled him. Check out what netizens had to say about this US lawmaker’s remarks about pro-choice women asking for their reproductive rights. While several users shamed him and called his comments disgusting, others dug out dirt on the politician and shared that he has been accused of sex trafficking and having sex with a minor.

How many of the men outlawing abortion are pedophiles and rapists? Just asking. https://t.co/O2KMmzm9Nx
— Bob Fertik (@BobFertik) May 4, 2022
So @mattgaetz seems to think many women are over educated. No wonder he has to pay minors for dates and runs around with @RepMTG. https://t.co/RLwLUOhFXv

How many men supporting overturning Roe are the same men who impregnate women and girls by any means necessary and then walk away? I love my cats, fuck you dude. There's no such thing as #overeducated https://t.co/bgefeB9o7S
— Julie (@maizy814) May 5, 2022
Sounds like your lonely life @mattgaetz. All you can mustard up is underage female. Then you take them out of state to make the crime even worse. Your buddy is currently going to be doing time. And, you're right behind him.#Rapist https://t.co/esRRMeLXpT

Netizens also went on to call out the lawmaker for calling women “over-educated” while others called him a “deplorable” person.

This dude couldn’t be more of a bad human being. “Over-educated”? @mattgaetz you are a deplorable person and I wish I was shocked that you think you can say whatever you want. https://t.co/Io8wUK3fT0

This guy actually said this publicly and people still vote for him…and what the hell is "over educated"??? Does he mean women who are smarter than him??? Fuck this guy with the biggest dick ever! https://t.co/s07XV3d0lY

“Over-educated”🙄 On what planet is learning a bad thing? Maybe the same one where being a misogynist is cool?
If only we could ever use that term for members of Congress – perhaps this country would be in better shape if we elected more policy wonks and fewer Matt Gaetzs. https://t.co/KfqhHBOjcn

So there is a thing called "over-educated" in a woman now?? https://t.co/iaEBQ1tqoU

A user also went on to point out that any woman who stands up for her rights might be termed “over-educated” by people like Matt Gaetz. Tweeple also called him out for hating on women and being a misogynist. Some women also took a moment to laugh about this comment while pointing out that they own an air fryer.

When they start claiming women are “over-educated,” that’s when you know the misogyny is reaching increasingly dangerous levels https://t.co/D6HnZMYfBM
— Ahmed Baba (@AhmedBaba_) May 4, 2022
Matt meant educated women in general. Matt doesn’t like a strong, educated and independent woman. He likes obedient, subservient women. Those who don’t know better then to feel as though they are only here to produce offspring or stay in the kitchen. #RoeVsWade #Republicans https://t.co/O86x2nhJtl

Thank you for letting us know what the Republicans think about women who can think for themselves. We will return the favor by voting every Republican out of every office.

59% of abortions are obtained by women who already have children. I'm a married mother of 3. I believe in abortion rights because I know what it is to be pregnant and I know what it is to be a mother. It should absolutely be a choice.
— Laura Marie (@lmegordon) May 5, 2022
Calling women “over-educated” for caring about their basic freedoms is a pretty concise way to expose how anti-women, anti-education, and anti-freedom the Republican Party really is.

But this one was a point made well. TBH, this one is the highlight of my day!
Hey Matty, tell me how you would feel about forced vasectomies for all men 18 years and older until they are ready for procreation? Voter card = vasectomy? I'm here all morning.

Well, TBH, Matt Gaetz just turned Twitter into a war zone and netizens are about to eat him alive and for good reason. What I cannot seem to understand is what does being “over-educated” (whatever that’s supposed to mean) and “under-loved” (I think he means single women who are cat owners) have to do with reproductive and abortion rights? Firstly, if a woman is “under-loved” that doesn’t mean she can’t get pregnant or want an abortion. And I think education has nothing to do with owning one’s own body and not wanting to be forced into having babies. If only someone could explain the concept of bodily autonomy to Matty.
