TMC Proposes A Debate On Crimes Against Women In Houses Of Parliament In View Of BJP MLA Accused Of Rape

Lately, there have been a lot of controversies going on in Indian politics. Recently, Congress minister Adhir Ranjan Chowdhary made headlines for referring to the Madam President as “Rashtrapatni”. The opposition raised this issue in the parliament asking for an apology from the minister. Post this, now the Trinamool congress moved to the parliament to seek a debate on crimes against women. This demand comes after a BJP MLA has been accused of raping a woman in Gujarat.

As per the news reports, the Trinamool Congress submitted notices in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha with a demand that there should be a debate in the parliament on the attacks and crimes against women. The BJP MLA accused of raping has also been mentioned in the notice. The notices in both the Houses of Parliament were submitted by the Trinamool MPs Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, Dola Sen, and Mausam Noor. The notice had a proposal that there should be a proper discussion over the rising rate of crimes against women keeping in mind the “latest reported incident” as per the news. Going by the sources, it has been said that the opposition parties like Congress and others might also join TMC in seeking a  debate on the issue.

In the notice along with demanding the debate, it has also been highlighted that the BJP MLA and Gujarat Rural Development Minister, Arjunsinh Chauhan has been accused of raping a woman and confining her for five days. The TMC leader Mahua Moitra also took to her Twitter handle to write that the opposition demands an apology over this by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and further wrote that she expects that on Monday, the Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla first gives the mic to the opposition so that they could raise the apology demand.

Indeed such a debate and discussion is essential to take place in houses of Parliament, however, looks like the parties are just doing a blame game against each other.
