This Woman From Manipur Has Been Selected As One Of The World’s Inspirational Young Leaders For Kofi Annan Changemakers 2021
For too long, women were considered inferior. The weaker sex, they called us. Treated us like dirt and confined us to kitchens and various other rigid patriarchal norms. And even though it sounds like I am talking about the 19th century, this was the way the world functioned until just a few years ago. Thankfully, things are looking up now. We are far away from global gender equality, which is the ultimate goal, but we’ve moved a few steps in that direction. Women are being recognized for more than their cooking skills. They are topping charts and breaking records and we couldn’t be more delighted.
That being said, today we are discussing a woman who has made the entire country proud with her admirable work. 29-year-old Zeinorin Stephen Angkang from Manipur’s Ukhrul district. She has been selected by the Geneva-based Kofi Annan Foundation as one of the world’s 12 ‘exceptional young leaders’ for the Kofi Annan Changemakers 2021 initiative. This is an exceptional feat.
The Kofi Annan Foundation is an independent non-profit organisation. It was established in Switzerland in 2007 by the late former UN Secretary-General, Kofi Annan. Zeinorin will represent India at a six-month inter-generational dialogue in Geneva. This dialogue commences on 28 June and will also include various international leaders. The aim is to strengthen the impact of the work that these 12 ‘changemakers’ are doing.

Zeinorin, along with her husband Leiyalon Vashum, founded Hill Wild Pvt. Ltd. This confectionery company engages with indigenous farmers in that area for the betterment of their livelihood. She was selected to be a changemaker based on her work with these indigenous farmers of the Tangkhul Naga tribe in Manipur.
Zeinorin told EastMojo, “I feel elated to be a Kofi Annan Changemaker. I hope to shape my leadership skills and truly bring the maximum impact for the indigenous farmers of my Tangkhul tribe. I have a responsibility to transform my community first.”
We are so proud. More power to her!
