This Twitter Thread Asked Women If They Would Allow Their Husbands To Wear Shorts After Marriage
Indians have a very typical mentality. They strongly believe that to avoid rape and assault, women need to wear appropriate clothing and not step out of the house once it’s dark. But there have been countless cases that completely nullify this logic. Instead of limiting our women, we need to be educating our men. That is the solution. But hey, we can all agree that this rigid patriarchal system isn’t going anywhere and so, by default, neither is this women-shaming attitude. However, let’s use our imagination today, shall we? What would a world where the tables are turned look like?
I am talking about a sort of matriarchal world. Although, if I am hoping for a change it would be for gender equality but let’s humour this thought. Women are so used to not having autonomy, how would men react if it were taken away from them? What if they were told they couldn’t wear tight T-shirts, treated as second-class citizens were forced to give up lucrative careers to take care of their in-laws, told what they can and can’t do with their bodies and then, after putting up with all this were blamed for all the sexism happening against them? What a world that would be.

I say this after a Twitter user sarcastically asked the women on social media whether they would let their husbands wear shorts after marriage. It may seem like a trivial issue but countless women have no control over something as basic as what they wear. The replies that this tweet got had me in splits. Women are very clearly tired of being controlled and we love that. People replied with stereotypically misogynistic things that every woman has heard at least once in her life. Let’s take a look at some of the best replies.
