This MP Woman Made A Video Threatening To Commit Suicide If Her Husband Isn’t Given The Black Fungus Injection He Needs
You don’t need me to tell you what a dire situation we are currently facing. These first few months of 2021 have already given the entirety of 2020 a run for its money. And that is saying a lot. The deadly second wave of the pandemic has ravaged our country leaving only destruction in its wake. Not only do we have a massive shortage of life-saving supplies, infrastructure and other resources that is making it tougher and tough to cope but the stories and incidents that are making headlines are just downright disturbing. Recently, a woman in MP threatened to commit suicide if her husband, who has been admitted to the hospital with a black fungus infection, does not get the injection required for its treatment. The feeling of helplessness in the face of this crisis is truly overwhelming and heartbreaking.
Before I delve into why this woman threatened to jump off the roof of the hospital, let’s talk about what the black fungus infection or mucormycosis is. Recently, hospitals and doctors have started reporting a surge of COVID cases that involve a rare but deadly fungal infection called the black fungus. According to a BBC report, this infection affects the nose, eyes, lungs and, in extreme cases, the brain of a person. It has a mortality rate of 50% and can even infect those who have just recovered from a bout of COVID. The only viable treatment is an anti-fungal intravenous injection of which there is a severe shortage in our country. No surprises there.
The black fungus is probably the most terrifying of all the COVID symptoms. And hence, you can only imagine the state of mind this woman must be in when her husband, who was suffering from it, was not getting adequate treatment because the hospital didn’t have enough injections. On Tuesday, the video of her threatening to jump off the roof of a hospital in Indore, MP, went viral. In the video that is addressed to Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and the state health minister Prabhu Ram Choudhary, she explained her husband’s condition and said that if her husband doesn’t get the injection she will have no choice but to commit suicide.

The woman said, “I am speaking from Bombay Hospital. My husband is admitted in this hospital with black fungus infection and has pain in his eyes and jaws. The injection (Amphotericin-B) is not available in this hospital. Where should I take him in this condition. If I don’t get the injection today, then I will jump off the roof of the hospital and commit suicide. I have no other option left.”
In retaliation, the hospital’s general manager Rahul Parasher said that the woman is being counselled and that she is in a very disturbed state of mind. He said, “Her husband has been administered 59 Amphotericin-B injections but his requirement is more. These injections are not available in the hospital at present and patients are being treated for Mucormycosis with other anti-fungal drugs.”
According to reports, in Indore itself, 122 patients were admitted with a black fungus infection or Mucormycosis and that there is a severe shortage of the Amphotericin-B injections. This particular incident though is heart-wrenching. Hopefully, this woman husband’s will get the treatment he needs and she won’t be forced to take such drastic steps. All we can do right now is help as many people as we can while still taking all the safety precautions.
