This Girl Is Teaching Everyone How To Make Gol Rotis Without A Belan And It’s Pretty Cool

Last year when most of us were forced into this unpredictable and nightmarish lockdown, one that came with uncertainty and a sense of timelessness- we didn’t know how long it would last- or how we could survive it. During this time, I’ve found respite  by contributing to household chores like the responsible adult I claim to be. And that after a point meant also helping out in the kitchen. I normally despise cooking, but I found a middle ground with my mother. I would make the rotis, while she would prepare everything else. I would say I did a decent job, but I’d have done much better had I known about this roti-hack that is going viral on the internet.

This  young girl is going viral in her video where she demonstrates the perfect jugaad to make quick and round rotis. This girl has proven that you may not need a rolling pin (belan) to cook rotis, but only sheer will and wit.

The way she does it, is by first kneading the dough on the board and then neatly covering it with a plastic sheet. She then keeps a steel plate on top of the dough ball and then presses it firmly from all sides, until it flattens round on the surface, presenting in front of you the ultimate gol roti.

People have gone understandably gone gaga over the easy hack and the fact that the young girl pulls off the roti-making so effortlessly and with a visible glee on the face, is just the cherry on the cake. After all, if Indians are great at something, it has to be coming up with “jugaads“.

Meanwhile, we are bookmarking the video for future reference, not just to train ourselves but also to forward it to the men who say they can’t work with a belan to make rotis Guess what? Now you don’t have to!
