This Canadian Woman Called Tech Support, Offered Kindness To Delhi Guy On The Other Line Amidst COVID Crisis

While India battles the second wave of the pandemic, there is a general feeling of despair and hopelessness going about. Every day, our country records over 4 lakh cases and the severe dearth of life-saving resources and infrastructure is just making a horrid situation even worse. There is a faint light at the end of the tunnel but in perilous times like these, we have to keep aside our personal prejudices and help as many people as we can. Kindness and a sense of community is the only way we will emerge on the other side triumphant. We should all take inspiration from this Canadian woman who is going viral after she shared a post urging people to be compassionate towards one another.

Sarah Bezanson from Toronto recently shared a post on her LinkedIn profile talking about her conversation with a man from New Delhi. She said that after she asked him how he was doing, he broke down and wept. He told her that he has been losing someone every day for the past 10 days to this pandemic. As we all know, our nation’s capital is reporting tens of thousands of cases a day. There is widespread mayhem and chaos. But amid all that, we are glad this man found comfort and some kind words from this Canadian woman.

In her post, Sarah wrote, “I had to call for some tech support yesterday. While we waited for a diagnostic program to load, the gentleman on the phone made some small talk. Asked me where I was.” After answering him, she asked him where he was from. That’s when his voice began quivering and he broke down. Sarah said in her post that he wept. The man from New Delhi told her, “I’m so sorry. It’s really bad here. I’ve lost someone every day for 10 days.”

Sarah tried to offer this man some comfort. She told him that he could talk to her if he wanted. She wrote in her post, “Told him to forget the issue I’d called about. That he had nothing to be sorry for,” she wrote. “That we could talk if he needed to or just leave the line open in silence so he could take a break from the phones and hold space for his grief.” They stayed on the phone for about an hour. Sarah concluded her post by saying that during these pressing times, we need to show everyone some compassion and empathy. She wrote, “There’s a person on the other end and they may be valiantly showing up and doing their best while they are living through absolute hell.”

This Canadian woman’s wholesome post has been widely shared on social media. It has garnered thousands of comments and re-tweets. Netizens have lauded Sarah for her kindness and some have even shared similar experiences.
