Millions of people have lost their loved ones to the Coronavirus. In the last one and a half years, there has been more death and destruction than ever. On the other hand, this godforsaken pandemic has shown us that we are stronger than we ever imagined. We’ve learned to be resilient and persevere through all the despair and grief. One of the biggest examples of this is 16-year-old Vanisha Pathak from Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. Her story will bring tears to your eyes.

Vanisha Pathak is a girl from Bhopal who lost both her parents to COVID 19 in May. She and her 10-year-old brother were left all by themselves. Two months later, beating all the odds, Vanisha took her 10th standard CBSE boards. Much to everyone’s surprise, she topped with flying colours. Actually, that’s an understatement. Her stellar grades can give anyone a run for their money.

All parents want their children to score well and make a good future for themselves. Unfortunately, Vanisha’s parents didn’t get to see their daughter make headlines with her academic achievement. According to a report in NDTV, she scored a perfect 100 in English, Sanskrit, Science and Social Science and 97 in Mathematics. Are your eyes popping out of your head yet?

Speaking to NDTV Vanisha said, “The memory of my parents obviously kept me motivated and will motivate me throughout my life but he (her brother) is the biggest source of motivation right now. I am all he has and that keeps me going. I need to do something. The last thing my mother said to me was ‘Just believe in yourself… we will be back soon. The last words of my father were ‘Beta, himmat rakhna‘.”

The last time Vanisha saw her parents were when they were leaving for the hospital together. They died just a few days apart from each other. Now, Vanisha and her brother are being taken care of by her maternal uncle and aunt. Her accomplishments have made us all proud.
