Viral Video Of Theyyam Artiste In Kerala Comforting And Blessing Muslim Woman Is Winning Hearts

A lot of times it happens when we all need support when we are going through a difficult time in our lives. It could your family members, friends, colleagues, or even total strangers. In that situation, what matters the most is to find someone who will give you a shoulder to lean on and will listen to your problems. One such case came to light when a Theyyyam artiste came forward to help and listen to a Muslim woman wearing a hijab and blessed her as well.

Currently, a two-minute video is going viral on the internet that shows a Theyyam artiste who performs the traditional rituals comforting a Muslim woman wearing a hijab. Also known as Vellattam, it is a ritualistic art and dance form where performers take up the role of gods, warriors and local deities from oppressed castes and communities and perform during the ritual. The video is quite surprising and heartwarming when the issue of the burqa ban is spreading like a wildfire in our nation, especially in South India. This took place in Kerala’s Kasaragod during the Theyyam festival on February 15, the ritual was held at PV Balakrishnan’s house who is the neighbour of the Muslim woman. During the performance at the festival, Muthappan who is the main performer caught sight of a middle-aged woman with a Rs 20 in her hands who was patiently waiting to meet him to seek his blessings.

After that, he called the woman named MT Ramlath and said that she is not different even though she belongs to a different religion, “Come here. You are not an outsider. Do you think you are different because of your religion or caste? No, all are one,” Muthappan said. Hearing his comforting words, she couldn’t stop herself from crying. He further added that she should hold her faith tightly and God will help her. The woman told him that she was facing a lot of trouble after her husband lost his job due to the pandemic two years ago.  The video is shot by KV Shaju, an electrician.

Ramlath realised that the video has gone viral when her 10-year-old daughter showed it to her. She mentioned that many people came forward to help her and she also faced criticism from some orthodox people. According to the locals, people from different religions come during the festival to seek blessings. The most important thing as a human is to support each other in tough situations without any bias.
