This Tamil Nadu Couple Is All Set To Host A Hogwarts-Themed Wedding Reception In Metaverse. Can We Join Too?
When it comes to technology, I’m definitely a no-go. I want to say that I can keep up with the latest technology, but in reality, I can’t. Having said that, I have friends from various fields that keep me updated with it. Is it like talking to the wall? Most definitely. So, why do they do it? Because I like knowing about things even if I don’t fully understand. Just like I came to know about this couple from Tamil Nadu who is planning to host their wedding reception in Metaverse. Nope, you didn’t read it wrong, they really are doing it!
Dinesh S P and Janaganandhini Ramaswamy are all set to get married on the first Sunday of February 2022 in the Sivalingapuram village, Tamil Nadu. But the couple has decided to host their Hogwarts-themed wedding reception in Metaverse.
The couple said that after their wedding, everyone – including them – will switch to their laptops and enter a virtual venue for a Hogwarts-themed reception. This reception will be attended by their families and friends that are spread across the world.
So, what is a Metaverse you ask? Well, a Metaverse is a virtual reality where the users can live and interact with other people through their digital avatars. It connects many elements of technology like augmented reality, blockchain, and virtual reality. This is exactly where the couple will be having their wedding reception.

Speaking about Metaverse, Dinesh S P, who is a project associate with IIT Madras, said in an interview, “came up with the idea of having a Metaverse wedding reception, and my fiancee also liked the idea… I have been into crypto and blockchain technology, and have been mining ethereum, a form of cryptocurrency, for the last one year. Since blockchain is the basic technology of Metaverse, when my wedding was fixed, I thought of having a reception in Metaverse.”
In fact, Dinesh even took to Twitter to post a short video that shows how their Hogwarts-themed wedding reception in Metaverse would look like. He captioned the video saying, “I feel so proud and blessed that I have seen and taken advantage of many great opportunities in this world before millions of people have seen them, Beginning of something big! India’s first #metaverse marriage in Polygon blockchain collaborated with TardiVerse Metaverse startup.”

Talking about her wedding reception being in Metaverse, Janaganandhini Ramaswamy said that she is super thrilled about it and it fits aptly since two of them met digitally, on Instagram. The couple both are huge Potterheads and so decided to have a wedding reception with a Hogwarts theme.
The couple from Tamil Nadu in the Metaverse will have avatars that will be dressed in traditional clothes, whereas their guests will be given details to log in and choose an avatar of their choice. In the 1hr long event, the guests will be able to interact with everyone including the bride and groom. In fact, the reports suggest that the guests will also be able to give gifts to the bride and groom. The couple said that they are accepting gifts in the Metaverse and can transfer it to them through gift vouchers, Google Pay, and even cryptos.
If this wedding reception is not an example of how far we’ve come with regards to technology, then I don’t know what is. Having said that, I’m not a fan of digital events (something that I’ve sat through a lot in the pandemic) but for this one, I’m sure excited!
But waaaaiiiitttt hold up, what about the food!? Isn’t that what weddings are all about!?
