Taliban Wants Women Employees To Be Replaced By Their Male Relatives. How Many More Strikes Until There Are No Rights Left?

Last year in August, was when things started going really bad for Afghanistan. It was the time when the Taliban took control of the country and since then the condition of people living there is worsening. And this is especially true for women whose rights have been constantly violated. The group has issued multiple decrees that suppress their basic human fundamental rights. For instance, schools are shut for girls, women are asked to completely cover themselves with a burqa, women are not allowed to leave their house without a male relative, etc. And now, the addition to the list is that the Taliban have asked women employees to send their male relatives as their representatives to do their jobs.

Yep, one of the woman employees in Afghanistan spoke to a daily and revealed that she has received calls from Taliban officials who have requested a male employee at her workplace. She even said that one of the Taliban officials said that her workplace needs to hire a man instead of them to do their jobs.

The woman employee, quoting a Taliban official, said to her that, “workload in the office has increased and they need to hire a man instead of us.” Another employee from the Finance Department said that since they’ve come to power, many women have been demoted and even their salaries have been reduced. Speaking personally, she revealed that she doesn’t earn enough to afford her son’s school fees. And when she questioned her demotion, they rudely asked her to leave and said that it was not “negotiable”.

The woman even revealed that the hold of the Taliban is such that she received a call from the ministry’s HR department and asked her to recommend a replacement for the post she was demoted from and for which she worked for 15 years.

The policies that are made by the Taliban are heavily criticised by global bodies who have pointed out that these policies are affecting Afghanistan’s economic growth. They have highlighted that the country is going in loss due to the current restrictions on women’s employment.
