Madurai Based IT Firm Provides Employees With Matchmaking Services And Bi-Annual Increments! How To Apply?

I think throughout our entire life, we have all been encouraged to follow a very similar path in life. Education, job and marriage. And let’s be fair, as the “right age” comes closer. So what is the right way to get married “on time”? Get your company to look for a partner for you, of course! If you think that what I am saying is absurd, then check out Sri Mookambika Infosolutions (SMI), an IT firm that provides its employees with matchmaking services.

Sri Mookambika Infosolutions (SMI) is a Madurai based privately owned global technology solutions company. The company offers free matchmaking services to their employees and also gives them increments every 6 months. SMI and its associate companies together employ 750 employees out of which 40% have worked there for more than 5 years.

SMI was started in Sivakasi in 2006 and shifted its base to Madurai in 2010. The company has an annual revenue of around Rs 100 crore. SMI has had an attrition or downsizing rate of only 10% for several years. MP Selvaganesh, founder and CEO of SMI told TOI that their strength lies in the fact that they believe in giving back and hard work. He further said that he was aware that they could not build such a community in a Tier-1 city where everything is commercially oriented. Hence, they moved to Madurai as they believed it matched their DNA.

SMI also had a difficult start at the beginning as they were unable to hire people being labelled as a Madurai based startup. Selvaganesh said that until their team reached a count of 200, even the average performers were given chances and the benefit of the doubt which made them work better. As their team got settled, the company started demanding professional excellence giving great results.

SMI provided salary hikes for getting married and introduced the matchmaking services much later. The CEO said that he is treated like a brother by the employees as most of them hail from villages with ageing parents or lack a proper outlook, finding it hard to find a match. SMI proved its employees with 6%-8% raise every 6 months. “There are several long-term employees. We cannot take them for granted thinking they will not go anywhere. We give them their due even before any such thought comes to them. Employees reach out to me directly when they face any challenges. We need to invest time and money to create such bonds and be honest in our approach. Not see everything from the business perspective alone,” Selvaganesh claims. However, he added that accountability also matters to him in the company as they fire the bottom 4%-5% of performers every year. He said that most voluntary attritions come from women who leave their job after marriage. “Even if one includes all that, our attrition level will still be less than 13 per cent, a number that IT companies in Tier 1 cities can only aspire for,” said the CEO.
