Who Is Shreya Singla, The 17-Year-Old Who Won A Gold Medal For India At The Deaflympics 2022?
It is indeed a proud moment for India on the sports front. The Deaflympics (Deaf Olympics) 2022 are going on in Brazil currently and India is ranking 9th in the event. We have 17 medals so far to our name of which 8 are gold. Now, the country has bagged yet another gold medal at this event. This time Shreya Singla has scripted history by winning a gold medal in badminton. Here are more details about Shreya Singla, her background and how she trained to achieve this feat.

Shreya Singla is a 17-year-old hailing from Bhatinda, Punjab who has won the gold medal for India at this year’s Deaflympics. She has won the finals against Japan. She is also the first girl from her state to achieve this feat, which is a very proud moment for her family. As per reports, Shreya trained at the Shining Star Academy in Bahadurgarh.
Before this, Shreya participated in the Second World Deaf Youth Badminton Championship in Taiwan and won the silver medal at it. Shreya’s mother has revealed that when they learnt of Shreya’s inability to hear, they did not treat this as a disability but rather raised her like a normal child. Her mother and father came to know that she was unable to speak and hear when she was four. But they got hearing aids installed in her ears and that is how she learnt to speak.

Sharing her thoughts on her win, Shreya Singla said that this was her first time participating in Deaflympics. She also said that she had worked very hard but also faced many difficulties. But her parents were there for her every step of the way. Shreya also urged other disabled sportspersons to not focus on their disability but rather on the sport.
