Just like Swara, other actresses including Richa Chadha supported the girl in hijab and wrote, “Raise your sons better! A bunch of ugly, cowards attacking a lone woman in a pack and feeling proud of it ? WHAT LOSERS! Shameful. They’ll be jobless, more frustrated and penniless in a few years. What poor upbringing! No sympathy, no redemption for them. I spit on your kind.”

Furthermore, actress Shreya Dhanwanthary tweeted “Come on! Let people wear whatever they want! Whether it’s a hijab, bright saffron robes or green hulk costumes!!! How is this happening?! Oh wait. I forget. People freaked out about spitting… sorry, my bad. This is fully on brand with what’s been happening lately.”
Filmmaker Neeraj Ghaywan also displayed his take on the ongoing issue and mentioned, “Genocide is at the doorstep. It’s not just on Muslims (and Dalits) to fend for themselves. Progressive well-meaning Hindus will have to call out the hate within, demand accountability & force action! Your silent disassociation is meaningless.”

The incident has divided the internet into two halves, with a section of the web pariwar calling hijab regressive and showcasing their support to the anti-hijab movement. One opinion amongst which is journalist Shekhar Gupta’s take on the situation.

Earlier today, Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai announced that all schools and colleges will remain shut due to the ongoing hijab row. The CM has asked students, teachers and management of schools and colleges along with the people of the state to maintain peace and harmony. Meanwhile, the Karnataka high court is in the middle of listening to the petition filed by 5 girls who have questioned the hijab restrictions and study in a Government Pre-university College in Udupi. The petitions will continue to be heard tomorrow on February 9, 2022, according to reports.
