Renee Sen Calls Sushmita Sen’s Boyfriend Rohman Shawl, Uncle. Says He Was Happy With Her Debut
Fairytales, Bollywood movies and daily soaps have tarnished the image of stepparents or a parent’s boyfriend or girlfriend. Any time we hear of such a situation, our minds automatically assume the worst. We picture Cinderella’s evil stepmother with an attitude like Cruella’s. But that not always the case, is it? Let’s take Sushmita Sen’s family for instance. Her older daughter Renee said that Rohman Shawl (Sushmita’s boyfriend) wouldn’t react much to her debut movie, Suttebaazi, but whatever he does say, means a lot. Their family dynamic is adorable!
For all those of you who don’t know, Renee Sen recently made her Bollywood debut. She featured in a movie called Suttebaazi that aired on Disney+ Hotstar earlier this year. In an interview with Bollywood Bubble, she said that her mother, Sushmita Sen, was in tears after watching the movie. Renee also said that Sushmita was very supportive of her career choices even when she was informed that Renee will have to smoke in the movie.
Renee said that “When I turned 18, my mom told me one thing: ‘From today, all your successes and failures are yours’. There were days, yes, when I thought I want to take the easy way out, but it’s really not worth it.”

When she was asked how the rest of her family reacted, Renee said that her younger sister Alisah will be happy for her but wouldn’t get too excited or disappointed and Rohman would be happy as well. Renee said, “Alisah (sister) will tell me, ‘you’re growing up now, I’m so happy’. But seriously, she has a really balanced view for everything. She won’t get too excited, or too disappointed. In her heart, I don’t know what’s happening. She may be jumping and all of that… Rohman uncle (Sushmita’s boyfriend) also, even with him, he won’t say much, but when he says (something), it really means a lot. He was really happy as well.”
Renee has also made it very clear that she wants to succeed in this industry without using her mother’s name. She believes that if she succeeds with the help of her mother, that success would not be hers. Isn’t this such a refreshing take? Unlike most star kids, Renee understands her privilege and doesn’t want to abuse it. That’s how it’s supposed to be.
