Reebok’s New Wonder Woman Collection Campaign Features COVID 19 Frontline Nurses. What A Fitting Way To Pay Tribute

Is it only me or did you guys also feel like October lasted all of 10 seconds? This whole year has been catastrophic, to say the least. With the pandemic and all the problems that came along with it, most of us seem to have lost our footing. As cases are rapidly increasing, we are trying our best to retain some semblance of our normal lives while still trying to keep ourselves faraway from any possibility of getting infected. However, my mind keeps drifting towards the doctors and nurses, all around the world, who are on the frontlines, fighting this deadly virus for us. And while people everywhere are doing things in their honour, we will be forever indebted to them. The latest company to pay medical health professionals a tribute is Reebok. They picked real-life nurses and got them to endorse the new Wonder Woman Reebok shoe collection.

Ahead of the Wonder Woman sequel that is coming this December, Reebok, in partnership with DC and Warner Bros. Consumer Products decided to use nurses to promote their new shoe collection. It’s perfect since nurses are as close to superheroes as we are going to get.

In honour of the health care workers, they picked 6 nurses from Boston as the faces of their campaign for the Reebok x Wonder Woman 1984 capsule collection. Caroline Machen, vice president of global marketing at Reebok, said in a statement, “These nurses are on the front lines, fighting the first global pandemic of the century day in and day out by risking their lives to save others. While they might not see themselves as real-life wonder women, we do.”

I honestly am loving this. However, I am wondering why Indian brands aren’t doing this? I am sure they know that banging thalis is not the only way to honour our frontline workers. Doctors and nurses really deserve to be appreciated for they really are wonder women (and men).

As part of the campaign, nurses Taylor Meyer, Vilma Pacheco, Kathryn D’Innocenzo, Suki Stiles, Cassie Moy, and Solange Rosa were also able to share their stories. They all also posed against a Wonder Woman background wearing their medical scrubs. The photos and their stories are so powerful and inspirational.

In the campaign video, emergency room nurse Kathryn D’Innocenzo talked about how hard it is to ask visitors to leave when all they want to do is be their loved one who is sick. She said, “When we can’t have visitors to keep everyone safe, we’re their link to their families. It’s very hard to have someone [bring in] their 20-something-year-old family member who is sick and dying of cancer, and you have to send them away when all [the patient wants] is to be with their family and be with their support system. You don’t realize how much people need each other until something like this happens.”

Another emergency room nurse, Solange Rosa talks about how difficult it has been to stay away from her family and how her patients keep her motivated. She said, “I actually haven’t seen my family. “I was out of the country all of February and most of March, and when I came back, I’d worked a shift and I couldn’t even hug my mother. I’m very close to my family, so that took a toll on me.”

In the video, nurse practitioner Vilma Pacheco talked about how scary the experience of working on the frontlines of this pandemic has been. Not only the isolation but also the constant worry of contracting the virus is very real. She said, “Not knowing if we were going to be sick, or if we were the ones who were going to die, was just one of the most horrifying experiences of my career.”

Taylor Meyer, a nurse practitioner talked about working with some of the fiercest women and taking this pandemic head-on. She said, “I work with some pretty amazing women who, to me, all wonder women. “[They’re] just the fiercest women I’ve ever seen, facing this pandemic head-on, and it’s been so inspiring to watch, and it really makes me want to be a better woman every day.”

At the end of the video, all of them shared a message. “I will fight for those who cannot fight for themselves.”

Tell me that doesn’t sound like something Wonder Woman would say. Hearing them share stories and describing all the difficulties that they are going through, gave me goosebumps. It’s so inspirational. I don’t think there could’ve been a better way to promote the Reebok x Wonder Woman 1984 capsule collection.

The collection itself includes a line of gold and hologram sneakers with WW detailing, a revamped version of the brand’s signature Freestyle Hi sneakers, gold leggings and a gray tracksuit set with mesh cutouts and cargo pants. Everything aside, aren’t the sneakers drop dead gorgeous though??

I am really hoping that more Indian brands come up with ways to use their products to honour the work and efforts put in by our health care workers. They are putting in their blood, sweat and tears to ensure we stay safe, the least we can do is honour them like the superheroes they are!
