Camilla Will Wear The Koh-i-noor Crown When Charles Becomes King, As Per Queen Elizabeth’s Wish

The Royal family never fails to keep up with news headlines. Be it their style, regal lifestyle or family disputes, members of the royal household steal the spotlight, time and again. And this time making it to the front covers is the infamous Koh-i-noor crown. As per reports, Prince Charles’ wife Camilla will wear the Queen mother’s 1937 diamond-encrusted crown. Yes, you read that right! As revealed by the Queen on the 70th anniversary of her accession to the throne, she expressed her “sincere wish” that when in the fullness of time Charles becomes king, that the Duchess of Cornwall will be known as ‘Queen Consort.’ Furthermore, a quote by the Daily Mail read as, “I remain eternally grateful for and humbled by, the loyalty and affection that you continue to give me. When, in the fullness of time, my son Charles becomes king, I know you will give him and his wife Camilla the same support that you have given me, and it is my sincere wish that, when the time comes, Camilla will be known as Queen Consort as she continues her own loyal service.”

As per a source close to the portal, “This is something that has been on the Prince of Wales’ mind for some time, but the timing had to be right. There was nervousness, they wanted to get it right. It’s been a done deal for some time, but the question has been how best to execute it. You are not going to please everyone. They understand that some people still won’t be happy, but the family believe it is the right thing to do.”

The infamous crown features 2,800 diamonds with a large stone given to Queen Victoria in 1856 by the Sultan of Turkey as a gesture of gratitude for British support during the Crimean War. The front-cross displays the famous 105-carat Koh-i-Noor diamond, which originated in India, in a detachable platinum mount. The diamond is said to have been mined from the former Kollur mine in Andhra Pradesh, which produced many large diamonds in the 15th century. Ever since Independence, India has called for the return of the Koh-i-Noor but Britain has refused to return it saying it belongs to Britain.

The announcement also indicated a slight sense of disapproval by many. Ever since her marriage with  Prince Charles and her entry into the Royal Family 17 years ago, Camilla has grown into her role as a senior royal. The path to public acceptance has been at times rocky, and at first, Camilla was a controversial figure who was blamed by some for the end of the prince’s first marriage to Princess Diana in 1997.
