Mahindra Finance’s Recovery Agent Crushes Pregnant Woman To Death, Anand Mahindra Comes Out In Support Of The Woman
There is some news that completely disturbs you and others that break your heart completely – well, the one I’m going to tell you about, is a bit of both. What is the news? Well, it is about a 27-year-old pregnant woman who was crushed to death under the wheels of a tractor that was forcibly driven away by the recovery agent of Mahindra Finance Company. The gruesome incident took place in the Hazaribagh district of Jharkhand on Thursday, September 15.
On Friday, September 16, one of the senior police officials of Jharkhand said that the three-month pregnant woman was the daughter of a differently abled farmer Mithilesh Mehta who resides in Bariyanath which comes under the jurisdiction of the Ichak police station. Manoj Ratan Chothe, who is the district superintendent of police, is investigating the case involving the manager and recovery agent of Mahindra Finance Company. He said that a case of murder has been charged against four people including the recovery agent and manager.

As per the reports, a special investigation team which is headed by the deputy superintendent of police (HQ) Rajeev Kumar has been formed to investigate the case of the three-month pregnant woman who was crushed under the wheels of a tractor that was being driven by the recovery agent of Mahindra Finance Company.
Mithilesh Mehta, the father of the pregnant woman, said that he had received a message from Mahindra Finance Company on Thursday, from which he had taken a loan to buy the tractor, stating that he needed to clear his outstanding dues of Rs. 1.3 lakh immediately. He also said that they threatened to take away the tractor that was parked at a nearby petrol pump on NH-33 unless he paid the due.
When Mithilesh Mehta reached the spot where his tractor was parked, he saw that the recovery agent from Mahindra Finance Company was already driving away the tractor. The SP said that the differently abled farmer ran after the moving tractor and told the agent that he was willing to pay Rs. 1.2 lakhs immediately. However, the agent insisted that he needed to pay the whole due if he wanted possession of the tractor.
When the recovery agent of Mahindra Finance Company refused to listen to the farmer’s pleas and kept driving away with the tractor, his three-month daughter came to the spot and ran after the tractor. It was then that she was crushed to death under its wheels.

Many villagers – mostly women – stood in front of the Hazaribagh collectorate with her body on Friday and demanded that the manager and recovery agent of Mahindra Finance Company be immediately arrested. They also asked for Rs. 20 lakh compensation for the pregnant woman’s family.
Needless to say, the news spread like wildfire and the managing director and chief executive officer of Mahindra Group Anish Shah put out a statement on Friday that read, “We are deeply saddened and disturbed by the Hazaribagh incident… We stand with the family in this moment of grief.” He even assured that the incident will be investigated from all aspects. The statement also said, “We will extend all possible support to the authorities during the investigation of the tragic incident.”
