Pooja Vastrakar is a 22-year-old Indian cricketer who is smashing the game with her performance in the ongoing ICC Women’s World Cup in New Zealand. Recently, she impressed the world including us when she dismissed New Zealand’s player Suzie Bates with a one-hand throw at the beginning of the match.

Her teammates and star cricketers like Mithali Raj, Smriti Mandhana, and Jhulan Goswami also call her by this cute nickname.

Early Life

Cricketer Pooja Vastrakar was born on September 25, 1999. She hails from Bilaspur in Madhya, Pradesh. Her father, Bandhan Ram Vastrakar is a retired employee of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL). She lost her mother when she was just ten years old. Pooja grew up with four sisters and two brothers, the ace cricketer is the youngest of the seven siblings.

Her coach, Ashutosh Srivastava spotted her when she was playing cricket with some boys in her neighbourhood. After watching her exceptional game, he approached her and asked her to join his training academy. A few days after she joined the academy, her mother passed away which affected her training. But with the help of her elder sister who is also an athlete and father, Ashutosh Srivastava started her formal training again. She was a part of the India Green Women Squad at the age of 15.

Career

The ace bowler made her debut in domestic cricket on March 9, 2013, against Odisha. So far, Pooja Vastrakar has played 2 Tests, 14 ODIs and 24 T20Is for the Indian women’s cricket team since her debut in the year 2018.
