In Pakistan, Nearly 70% Women Face Workplace Harassment, Shocking But Not Unsurprising

As we all know, women face more discrimination than men even though they are much better at their jobs, it’s a fact. And FYI, workplace harassment is one of the biggest reasons why women all over the world are forced to leave their jobs and it’s so sad. Talking about workplace harassment, it was recently found that over 70 per cent of women in Pakistan face harassment at their workplace every day. It is quite shocking, but not surprising at all because women all over the world face this issue and seems like there’s no end to their plight which is so disappointing.

Recently, the federal ombudsman issued an order imposing a penalty on Nadeem Riaz – the former ambassador of Pakistan to Italy after he was found sexually harassing the trade officer, as per reports. According to the report, the federal ombudsman has charged the former ambassador with a heavy penalty on the complaint of the trade officer who allegedly said that he had sexually harassed her. The report also mentioned that over 70 per cent of women are harassed at their workplaces every day. Due to lack of security and improper working conditions at their workplaces, many women in Pakistan are reportedly quitting their jobs. Meanwhile, many women who earn in order to support their families choose to remain silent as they don’t want to lose their jobs.

Furthermore, the reports mentioned that Pakistani women who work in offices with male colleagues or at places where the male ratio is comparatively high, usually find inconvenience in their mobility at the workplace.

According to the reports, Pakistani women have admitted that they face harassment at the workplace but they can’t report it because of their male relatives. They mentioned that their fathers and brothers wouldn’t let them work anymore and they can’t let it happen.

A report titled ‘Sexual Harassment at workplace in Pakistan’ mentioned that many Pakistani women are switching their jobs in order to avoid sexual harassment at their worplace. 

This is just really sad because it can affect the mental and physical health of these women negatively.
