Olympic Medallist Lovlina Borgohain Turns Muse For Designer Duo Bidyut And Rakesh’s Bridal Collection Showcase

Fashion and Sports have always shared a sweet, close-knit bond, with sports stars shining on the field and runway alike. Be it athletes like Sania Mirza, PV Sindhu or Virat Kohli and K.L. Rahul, these stars have garnered fame for their impeccable sartorial style apart from their skills on the ground. Having a penchant for trends and style that sets them apart from the circle of celebs, many popular athletes have also curated their own clothing labels. And now, bridging the gap between sports and fashion is ace pugilist and Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain. Walking the ramp at the North East Festival, the boxing champ donned a traditional Assamese saree of mulberry silk ‘paat.’ Turning muse for designer duo Bidyut and Rakesh’s latest wedding collection, the traditional mulberry silk paat saree featured sifina and zari work and was an attempt to give a twist to the traditional clothes worn by Assamese brides and grooms. Styled with a long, multi-layered neckpiece, and a bindi, Lovlina relied on minimal makeup.

Talking about her experience on Instagram, Lovlina shared, “I was thoroughly overwhelmed and ecstatic to be the Show Stopper at Northeast Festival held in Guwahati. It was an immense pleasure to wear Bidyut & Rakesh wedding collection. Just loved the traditional Mulberry Silk Paat saree.”

Lovelina Borgohain won a bronze medal at the Summer Olympics in the women’s welterweight event and became the third Indian boxer to win a medal at the Olympics. She was also conferred with the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award in 2021 and Arjuna Award in 2020 for her outstanding performance in boxing and became the sixth personality from Assam to win the prestigious award. She also has been appointed as DSP in Assam Police.

While it’s definitely not the first time that a sports star made it to the runway. A few years back, athletes PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal walked the ramp during the Lakme Fashion Week in 2019, for designers Misfit Panda and Vanni Raghupanti. And with Neeraj Chopra rising to fame with his glorious win at the Tokyo Olympics 2021, he has already become the face of many designer labels and magazines alike.
