Odisha Lawyer Couple Asks Wedding Guests To Donate Blood Instead Of Gifts; Marries By Taking Oath On The Indian Constitution

In the past few months, I have come across a lot of different types of weddings. I mean, remember the time when there was a couple that got married right in the middle of an ocean? And now that we’re right in the middle of the wedding season, I was prepared for more such absurd, unusual weddings. However, I was not expecting what this couple in Odisha did on their wedding day. Brace yourself. A couple in Odisha got married by taking oath on the Indian constitution and it doesn’t stop there. They even asked their wedding guests to donate blood rather than bring gifts! This is so noble of them.

Two lawyers – Bijay Kumar and Shruti Saxena – came up with a constitution theme for their wedding card and they seemed to have followed the theme through and through. The lawyer couple ditched the traditional wedding customs and chose to solemnise their wedding by taking an oath on the Indian constitution.

As per reports, the guests of the couple were shocked to not see a mandap, the pheras, and a pandit in the venue. The groom and the bride tied garlands around each other’s necks and then went on to take vows based on the Indian constitution.

After taking their wedding vows based on the Constitution of India, the couple decked up in their wedding outfits, lied on a stretcher to donate blood in a blood donation camp near their reception venue. They then urged their guests to do the same and requested them to pledge to donate their organs after their demise.

Talking to the bride about her wedding, Shruti Saxena said, “I met Bijay in Chennai in 2015. We work together. Our common friends brought us together. Our marriage is a different one. We took an oath and then donated blood. I think we have fulfilled our duties towards society. I hope it will be an example for others. I feel happy.”

No matter how absurd their marriage sounds, there is no denying that it is a progressive thought. And their wedding might just become a marriage trend we see in the near future.
