Bride Performed Martial Arts To Encourage Girls Learning Self-Defence. This Is So Cool!

We love the fun and frolic of Indian weddings and it’s so easy to get carried away with all that. People love themselves a shaandaar wedding, with as much as they can afford and more. And while you’re at it, you want to make memories and look pretty and just enjoy. But this bride decided to create a stir on her wedding day and how. Nisha, after her wedding got over, stepped out in her silk wedding saree and performed styles of martial art. She did ‘Surul vaal veechu’ and ‘Rettai Kambu’ with silambam sticks outside the wedding hall at Thirukolur village in Tuticorin district in Tami Nadu.

People love weddings and a bride doesn’t go unnoticed! So this was the perfect opportunity to make people actually pay attention and get them interested. Nisha’s aim to do so was to encourage young girls to learn self-defence.

The 22-year-old bride performed martial arts in a saree and make-up, and her friends who knew the forms also joined in. They kept the performance up for 90 minutes, thoroughly intriguing all the guests and villagers present.

Nisha said her now husband was the one who encouraged the idea of promoting self-defence among girls through her brilliant performance. She added that her parents have also encouraged her to learn and continue doing martial arts. She has been learning martial art forms such as ‘Silambam’, ‘Surul Vaal’, ‘Adimurai’, ‘Kalarippayattu’, and ‘Theepantham’. There are 80 people across ages being trained with no charge by Mariappan of Nadukutudankadu village and she is one of them.

It’s so heartening to see a woman being so supported by her parents and her partner to not only pursue martial arts herself but also encourage other girls to do so. It’s how it should be. Expecting a woman to be coy and delicate is such a thing of the past – not completely but it should be!
