Newcomer Wrestler Nisha Dahiya Victim to Shooting Along With Brother And Mother, Sparks Confusion Amongst Media
We all are aware of how difficult it is for women to achieve anything, especially if is an arena that is usually dominated by men. Usually, women are discouraged from pursuing such fields and even if they do, there is a host of people there to talk ill about them, comparing them to their male counterparts. However, there are a few of us who make it past all that and make a name for themselves in the world. But we’re all aware of the number of haters such women can have. An example of this can be seen as newcomer wrestler Nisha Dahiya, her brother and mother were victims of shooting by some unknown assailants.
Wrestler Nisha Dahiya and her brother, Suraj were shot dead by unknown assailants outside Sushil Kumar Acadamy in the Halalpur area of Sonepat, Haryana. While both siblings were shot to death, Nisha’s mother has reportedly been admitted to Rohtak’s PGI Hospital under critical conditions. Suraj and Nisha Dahiya’s bodies have been sent to Civil Hospital in Sonepat by the police, who is still running investigations on the shootings and the motive behind the shootings is still unknown.

According to The Tribune, this shocking news sparked some confusion amongst the media as everyone rushed to report the news of National-Level champion, Nisha Dahiya’s death by shooting. She recently won the bronze in 65 kg at Wrestling U-23 World Championships in Belgrade, Serbia on Friday. She was also praised by PM Narendra Modi for the same,

However, the U-23 bronze-winner Nisha Dahiya took to Instagram to refute the rumours of her being shot dead and clarify the confusion. She can be seen seated alongside Olympic Medalist Sakshi Malik and stated that she is in Gonda for a Senior National Championship.

While I am glad that national-level wrestler Nisha Dahiya is safe and thriving, my heart does go out to the newcomer whose dreams were crushed too soon. The reason behind the shootings is unknown, the possibility of it being a case of jealousy isn’t completely outlandish. I really hope that the perpetrators of this heinous and heartless crime are caught soon and the loved ones of Nisha Dahiya are able to find strength during this time.
