Kochi Tattoo Artist Accused Of Rape And Sexual Harassment By Multiple Women Has Been Arrested
No matter what time of the year it is, crime against women doesn’t seem to stop. Every day there are new cases of rape, molestation, sexual harassment that are coming out and it makes me realise how unsafe women of our country are. Take the recent instance of a case that came out in the open through a Reddit post. After someone posted on Reddit accusing a famous tattoo artist of rape and sexual harassment, many women came out and revealed that they too have been a victim of his. Even though no official complaint was filed against the artist, Kochi police arrested the accused after a thorough investigation.
On March 2, 2022, a Reddit post was shared wherein it accused a very famous tattoo artist from Kochi, Sujeesh PS, of rape and sexual harassment, a lot of women had come out and shared the post and also claimed to have been his victims. Sujeesh, who has had many leading artists from the Malayalam film industry as his clients, was arrested on Saturday.

Sujeesh PS, who runs the famous tattoo studio called Inkfected, had been named by multiple women for raping and sexually abusing them. And even though no official complaint had been filed by any of these women in the beginning, the Kochi police had started their investigation in the matter.
In fact, one of the senior police officers working the case even revealed that the tattoo parlour had been shut for two days and the artist’s phone also had been switched off – they had confirmed that the man had been absconding.
The entire ordeal started when an anonymous 18-year-old woman took to Reddit to narrate how two weeks ago she was raped and sexually abused inside a tattoo parlour. In her post, she wrote that the artist had taken her into a private room to get her inked and then he went on to ask her uncomfortable questions while she was getting her tattoo.

In her post, the woman further goes on to claim that after making her quite uncomfortable, the tattoo artist went ahead and sexually abused her and raped her. The woman then ran out of the studio with an incomplete tattoo and told her parents about the incident.
As per reports, the Kochi police had not been able to do much since there is no formal complaint lodged against the tattoo artist. However, they had spoken to the woman who shared the post and taken her statement. The Station House Officer of Palarivattom said, “We reached out to the girl and she said she will talk to her parents and get back to us. But we haven’t got any response from her. Once we get a complaint from her we will register the FIR immediately and start probing the case.”

Multiple women came out after the post and revealed their own experience with the tattoo artist, Sujeesh. Some of them revealed that he gave them “discounts” after the tattoo was done, he would allegedly not let any of the woman’s friends accompany them to the private room, and that he would even lock the room once inside.
Several social media accounts as well as people had posted videos about their experience with the tattoo artist. If counted, there were around 25 women who had spoken up about it. But when asked as to why they didn’t file an official complaint, their response was that they didn’t have any evidence regarding the incident.

At this point, it feels as though the safety of women in this country has become nothing short of a joke. No matter what part of the country you belong to, no matter the community, caste, religion, race, etc. if you’re a woman then your safety is always going to be compromised. We need the country to take women’s safety more seriously and our society needs to raise their men right.
