Kim Kardashian Took A Private Island For Her Birthday. During A Pandemic. Without Bothering With Masks

The way I spent my birthday this year, it was in April, for anyone wondering, was by shouting ‘hello, can you hear me’ at people who looked pixelated for the most part. Thankfully, this was followed by some cake cutting with my family that was the highlight of my day. It was safe to say that the pandemic had managed to sabotage my birthday pretty well this year. However, knowing that all this social distancing and quarantining was the only way to stay healthy enough to celebrate my next birthday, I consoled myself with the bigger picture instead. Something that Kim Kardashian wasn’t able to do, as she regardless of the pandemic, decided to have a grand party for turning 40.

While we are working from home, cooped up in our apartments, ordering in every service we can to avoid stepping out, the KKW Beauty founder Kim Kardashian was busy flying her family and friends out to a private beach to bring in her 40th birthday. Without masks, or the semblance social distancing, we want to point out. So much for being an ‘influencer’.

Posting pictures on her Instagram with long captions that read, “40 and feeling so humbled and blessed. There is not a single day that I take for granted, especially during these times when we are all reminded of the things that truly matter. For my birthday this year, I couldn’t think of a better way to spend it than with some of the people who have helped shaped me into the woman I am today.” Now up until this point, we could still relate to how overwhelming this year must’ve made her feel, as it does to everybody. But it was what followed, that got our and the rest of the internet’s goat.

Kim’s caption went on to share, “Before COVID, I don’t think any of us truly appreciated what a simple luxury it was to be able to travel and be together with family and friends in a safe environment. After 2 weeks of multiple health screens and asking everyone to quarantine, I surprised my closest inner circle with a trip to a private island where we could pretend things were normal just for a brief moment in time. We danced, rode bikes, swam near whales, kayaked, watched a movie on the beach and so much more. I realize that for most people, this is something that is so far out of reach right now, so in moments like these, I am humbly reminded of how privileged my life is. #thisis40”

Now, what for her was yet another post showing her extravagant lifestyle, making a solid case for the ‘privilege’, for us it was no more than a tone-deaf birthday celebration and post in times as hard as these. Think about it, as the world suffers at the hands of a virus that spreads like wildfire, and has forced economies across the world to crash, we have Kim Kardashian, hopping up on a jet to celebrate her birthday, corona guidelines be damned.

Calling her out on her ignorance of the gravity of situation, netizens dropped comments like, “nobody in this family could read a room if their life depended on it”, while another user wrote, “lmao reading this as half of my office got laid off today.” One netizen also wrote, “I haven’t seen ma family in 4 months because I work a public-facing job and I’m absolutely terrified of the possibility of passing Covid on to my vulnerable parents. I hope you had fun pretending things were normal, but spare a thought for those of us staying in the real world.”

In fact, British musician Peter Frampton  also commented on her carelessness as he said, “Are you that insensitive you don’t realize this is not what the majority of people during the worst Covid spike yet want to hear? People are going to food banks not private islands.” Of course Kim Kardashian hasn’t made a statement to address any of these comments yet, and honestly we can’t think of anything that would make her tone-deaf post any salvageable.

We understand how the urge to celebrate your birthday, after having had the worst years of all times is all too real. But doing it at the expense of contracting and spreading a deadly virus, and promoting travel despite health concerns is plain stupid and too careless for someone with her kind of influence. Guess, this birthday wasn’t about turning a year wiser for Kim, after all.
