Karnataka Hijab Row: Personal Details Of Muslim Girls Protesting Against Hijab Ban Allegedly Leaked By Udupi College

You’d have to be living under a rock to not know the ongoing controversy that is happening in Karnataka with regards to the hijab row. In fact, ever since then there are a series of events that have taken place that has left the country in shock. One of them being the most recent one where numbers, addresses, photographs, and more such personal details of 6 Muslim girls who are at the forefront of the protest was leaked from the pre-university college. Also, the BJP MLA Raghupathi Bhat who is the chairman of CDC has been maintaining that Muslim girls wearing hijab are not allowed inside classrooms.

Speaking to The Quint, one of the six Muslim girls, who have been at the forefront of the protests against the hijab ban in Udupi, Karnataka, revealed that she had been getting vulgar, abusive phone calls throughout the day on February 9th, 2022, and that’s when the 17-year-old realised that her personal details – phone number, parents’ name, address, etc. – was leaked on WhatsApp groups.

The Muslim girls who are protesting against the hijab ban in Karnataka also clarified that they haven’t shared their personal details with anyone except the college. Further, the BJP MLA Raghupathi Bhat, the chairman of the College’s Development Committee (CDC) is one who has been maintaining that Muslim girls wearing hijab are not allowed in the classroom since December 2021. 

Speaking to the six Muslim girls who are leading the protests against the hijab ban in Karnataka, revealed that they are scared that something might happen to them. They are in fear that now that their personal details are out, someone might target them. These young girls just want to study and achieve their goals but with the documents of their personal details doing the rounds on WhatsApp, they are scared for their life.

The Muslim girl students also revealed how the hate campaign around the hijab ban in Karnataka has mentally disturbed them. In their fight for their right, these students ended up losing a lot of time, mental peace, and even some of their non-Muslim friends. One of the girls said, “I do not know who made them oppose us. But I hope this will not last for long.”
