Justice Ayesha Malik Takes Oath As First Woman Judge In Pakistan’s Supreme Court

You know, it’s so fascinating to know about all the women who are creating history every other day in their respective fields and proving that they are no lesser than men. And Justice Ayesha Malik’s story is one of a kind where she recently took the oath as the first women judge in the Supreme Court of Pakistan. She has created history, for sure!

On Monday, Pakistan appointed Justice Ayesha Malik as its first female Supreme Court judge. The oath-taking ceremony was held in the capital of Islamabad in a ceremonial hall of the Supreme Court. According to the reports, the ceremony was administered by Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed and a large number of apex court judges, the attorney generals, lawyers, officials of the Law and Justice Commissions were present to witness this historic event. 

 

The appointment of Ayesha Malik as the Supreme Court judge is a landmark occasion in the history of the nation. The 55-year-old will now sit on the bench alongside 16 male colleagues at Pakistan’s highest court. We are so proud that she made her own way in the patriarchal system defying all the odds. Justice Ayesha Malik will be working as a Supreme Court judge until June 2031. Before this, she was appointed as a judge of the Lahore High Court. The current Prime Minister of Pakistan Imraan Khan congratulated Justice Ayesha Malik on Twitter.

Justice Ayesha Malik was born in 1966. She completed her basic education in Paris, New York, and Karachi. After that, she studied law at Pakistan College of Law, Lahore. She has also completed her LLM from Harvard Law School, as per reports. She came into light when she gave a landmark judgment in June 2021 where she outlawed virginity tests for the examination of sexual assault survivors.
