Journalist Rana Ayyub Shares Screenshot Of Disgusting Rape Threats She Receives. The Misogyny Runs Deep.
Opinionated women in India get so much hate, especially on social media that it is disgusting. It is important to notice that it is the men who are spewing such hate against women. From calling them offensive names and abusing them to giving rape threats, women face it all on social media. These men are governed by the ingrained misogyny that runs deep and they cannot stand a woman who has a strong opinion and statement to make which is contrary to theirs. These threats and abuse get far worse for Muslim women and journalist Rana Ayyub has been on the receiving end of it for several years now.
Rana always takes to her social media to share screenshots of the disgusting and hateful comments that are written on her social media posts and many of which are also DM’d to her. On August 28, Rana took to Twitter to share yet another screenshot of the filth that someone had personally messaged her on Instagram. It fills me with so much shame that I cannot even write the comments she received. The man along with a slew of hate messages also responded by using a couple of pig emojis on one of her stories. Rana Ayyub shared the screenshot with the caption, “Just another day”.

Right from the moment Rana shared this screenshot, a lot of support came pouring in from Internet users. Many of them asked her to remain strong while several others, too, were revolted by the pathetic language used by that man to put Rana down. One of them wrote, “Itni hate karke bhi kya karoge…Literally this generation is doomed”, while another retweeted the post by writing, “The kind of misogyny and violence meted out to female Muslim journalists in India can put cannibals to shame.”

This is clearly not the new normal which has sadly gotten normalised.
