Inter-Faith Marriage Invalid In Eyes Of Sharia, Says AIMPLB

Inter-Faith Marriage Invalid In Eyes Of Sharia, Says AIMPLB

If there is one thing as a society that we can’t tolerate is inter-faith marriages. I mean remember honor killing? Yup, it still exists. And now even more so than before. I believe that as a society we are becoming more stringent about the fact that people should get married within their community and not outside. Take the seven-point directive that the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) on Thursday stated which discouraged parents and individuals to go through with the inter-faith marriage.

Recently, on Thursday, the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB), issued a seven-point directive that spoke to all the parents, guardians, and other responsible figures to not go ahead and support inter-faith marriages among the youth – as it is invalid as per the Sharia Laws.

In fact, in their seven-point directive that discouraged inter-faith marriage, the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) also further added that women should get married at an early age so that “regretful” and “unfortunate” inter-faith marriages can be “avoided.”

In the document released by the All India Muslim Personal Law Board that condemns inter-faith marriage, the acting general secretary of AIMPLB, Maulana Khalid Saifullah Rahmani said, “Islam does not consider marriage between a Muslim and a non-Muslim, who are plythesists, as legal. Even if it appears to be valid by societal standards, it is not considered legal in the eyes of Sharia… We have come across several such cases where Muslim girls who went away with non-Muslim boys, have later had to face tremendous hardships or even lose their lives. This is why we have issued an appeal for parents, guardians, and responsible pillars of our society to stay vigilant and help young boys and girls.”

Maulana Khalid Saifullah Rahmani, the acting general secretary of All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB), also blamed co-working spaces and late marriages for the rise of inter-faith marriages. He encouraged the people of his community to be vigilant and stop such inter-faith marriage alliances.

It really shocks me that even in the 21st century, we give more importance to religion and community over love. People who approve of inter-faith marriages are denying the difference between two individuals, but are rather celebrating it. Couples who’ve had inter-faith marriages have time and again proved that it is the bond and the emotions between two individuals that make a marriage work. Not their religion and or their community. In fact, we’ve seen enough cases where couples who’ve got married in their religion or community have had unsuccessful marriages. A marriage needs to be worked on by the couple involved in it. And when it’s taken for granted, no marriage – whether inter-faith marriage or not – will not work.
