In UP, A Woman Was Gangraped And Tortured Over Dowry By Her Husband And In-Laws
From a very young age, girls are conditioned to believe that marriage is their ultimate goal. We’re told that our life only begins after we’re married and that his family becomes ours. A glorious picture is painted before our eyes. But no one ever prepares us for all the abuse and all the dowry harassment. Hundreds of women, every year, die because they couldn’t meet the insane demands of their inlaws. Either they are murdered or driven to the point of suicide. Even with an anti-dowry law in place, women are tortured on a daily basis. The latest, and probably one of the vilest incidents, occurred in UP just a few weeks ago. A woman was gang-raped and brutalized by her husband and in-laws over dowry.
This bone-chilling incident happened in the Budaun district of Uttar Pradesh. A newly-wed 20-year-old woman was gang-raped by her husband and brothers-in-law. Reportedly, the victim and her husband had gotten married on 22 June and as soon as she began living with her in-laws, they began demanding dowry. When she failed to comply, she was beaten, abused and raped.

The ordeal that this woman has gone through is nightmarish. She claims that she was gang-raped, tortured with a stick and they even burned her private parts. The woman also alleged that her husband and in-laws tried to kill her by giving her a cold drink laced with poison. When her father found out about all the things she had been subjected to, he went to her in-law’s house with a police team and rushed her to the district hospital where she is currently fighting for her life.
An FIR has been filed at the Zarifnagar police station and her husband has been arrested. Police officials say that further action will be taken based on the woman’s medical examination report. Hopefully, her in-laws are arrested as well and punished for all the torture they subjected her to.
How many more women have to go through this hellish ordeal before our government sees that we need effective preventive measures against dowry and all other crimes involving women? It’s spinning out of control now.
