Rape Survivor Forced To Take Virginity Test After Marriage, Asked To Pay 10 Lakhs For Purification. We Need Stricter Laws Against Such Tests!

You know, I feel like our society will never treat women like human beings and the rising cases of crime against women are proof of it. To be honest, to state that the percentage of crimes against women in our country is increasing with each passing day is to state the obvious. And it’s a shame that the people in power are not taking strict actions against the culprits as they are busy making senseless comments about the victims. In Rajasthan, in-laws forced the bride to take an illegal virginity test after the marriage but she failed it. After that, the khap panchayat demanded money from her for ‘purification’ after finding out that she is a rape survivor. This is so bizarre!

In Rajasthan’s Bhilwara, a bride was allegedly forced to take a virginity test by her in-laws after the marriage. The woman failed the test as she is reportedly a rape survivor. She revealed that she was raped by her neighbour before marriage but the khap panchayat ordered her family to pay Rs 10 lacs in order to purify her. On Saturday, she filed a complaint against her husband, in-laws, and the khap panchayat as they are demanding money from her for months.

The FIR also states that the woman was assaulted by her husband and his family before they summoned the khap panchayat at a local temple.

DSP Surendra Kumar said that a case had been registered a case under 498A for coercing a woman to meet any unlawful demand, 384 for extortion, 509 for insulting the modesty of a woman, and 120B for criminal conspiracy of the IPC. The khap panchayat revealing the identity of the woman is also considered a crime.

I don’t understand how people can blame the victim after such a horrible crime. Instead of purifying the survivor, such people need to purify their misogynistic mindset in my opinion.
