This Dance Video Of Hybrid Bharatham, A Hip-Hop And Bharatnatyam Fusion, Is Going Viral. These Ladies Killed It!
While mindlessly scrolling through Instagram, one of the things that would stop me and grab my attention is dance videos – especially fusion dances. Yes, I’m a sucker for fusion dances – specifically Indo-Western ones. I mean, I get fascinated with how talented these dancers are! In fact, recently I came across a young choreographer whose one dance video – Hybrid Bharatham – has gone completely viral. In the video, you can see the three gorgeous dancers fluidly transitioning from Hip-Hop to Bharatnatyam. Cool, right?
The Hybrid Bharatham dance video was posted by Usha Jey, a Sri Lankan choreographer based in Paris, on Instagram. She is also one of the three dancers featured in the 1 minute and 20 second long, Indo-Western dance video.

In the video, all the three dancers can be seen wearing beautiful green saree with plaits down to their waists and white jasmine flowers tucked in their hair. They are seen dancing to the song ‘Uproar’ by Lil Wayne where they are fluidly transiting from Hip-Hop to Bharatnatyam, making it a one-of-a-kind fusion of the two poles-apart dance forms.
Sharing the video, the choreographer wrote, “#HybridBharatham is my way of switching between Hip-Hop and Bharathanatyam, 2 dances that I love, learn and respect. My aim is to keep the essence of each dance and create something that do justice to who I am.”

Needless to say, social media has been tripping on this Hip-Hop and Bharatnatyam fusion dance. So far the video has gotten 1,737,752 views, 4k comments, and around 176k likes. Ngl, I’ve rewatched this video so many times and I’m still pleasantly shocked at how good these three dancers are.
