When someone would ask me what my hobby was as a kid, I would very enthusiastically respond by saying dancing. But when they would ask me to do a couple of moves on a song, it was at this moment that I would freeze and not one dance move would come to me. I recollect telling them ‘abhi mera mood nahi hai‘ and then running off to recover from this embarrassment. And that is how, folks, dancing was no longer my hobby. But it does make me feel proud to see someone following their passion for dance. One such artist who has recently caught my attention on Instagram is Jainil Mehta who is smashing stereotypes and how! He is delivering power-packed performances and that, too, in skirts! Yes, in skirts! And now the Internet cannot get enough of him after a video of him dancing to “Saami Saami” has gone viral.

This 22-year-old artist’s recent video wherein he is seen dancing to the track “Saami Saami” from Pushpa in Brooklyn, New York has taken over the internet. In the video, he is seen wearing a white tucked shirt and a multi-coloured skirt. He has also tied a yellow dupatta on his waist.

According to a report by Times Now News, he started dancing when he was 5-years-old. His mother saw his liking for dance and enrolled him in classes for the same. When he saw a Bollywood actress dance in a lehenga, he was extremely fascinated. He also went to his mother’s closet to grab a skirt which he wore behind closed doors and danced to his heart’s content.

Jainil Mehta’s grandfather encouraged him to take up dancing as a career. He moved to Los Angeles to pursue dance but he would still not wear skirts in public. One day, he eventually let his inhibitions go and went around the streets of New York dancing in skirts.
